In his first solo exhibition at Rufus Gallery, Arthur Devisscher presents new work created over seven eventful months — all driven by the pure pleasure of drawing, fuelled by things he saw or thought he saw. His world unfolds as he goes along: intuitively, thrillingly and without a plan. The drawings exude freedom and absurdism, their perspective wobbles, their logic twists and turns. In Devisscher's universe, birds rhyme with thoughts, grass grows in colours and a small hallucination slumbers in every line. Rufus Gallery is also showing a selection of works that Arthur created as resident artist for the B'Rock Orchestra. Each season, the orchestra enters into dialogue with a young visual artist; for 2024–2025, that honour fell to Arthur, who depicted their sounds in a series of intuitive works full of rhythm, energy and chaos. 'De spint van de naakte aap' is his first big leap: whimsical, detailed and irresistibly animalistic.
