Bert Delapierre (1976, Diest) decides in his first year at the KASK that he wants to devote himself exclusively to painting portraits. Under the watchful eye of teacher Marc Maet, he elaborates his stubborn saga, influenced by degenerate artists like Otto Dix, George Grosz and Max Beckmann. In 2000, the enfant terrible graduates and immediately wins the 'Pippijnprijs' ─ but at the same time loses his companion and promoter Maet, who quits his life on the day of his jury. Distracted, weeping, he decides to put down the brushes and work as a barman in Pink Flamingo's, the kitschy living room in Ghent that is also home to a certain Kamagurka. Two disturbed souls find each other and soon Delapierre emerges as the uncrowned right and left. From 2016, the silent Master says 'Kamagurkistan' goodnight and then goes on to vegetate in silly painting in his own right.
