In 'Het Huilende Huis', three illustrators ─ Sam Timmerman, Lukas Verstraete, Liesbeth Van Heuverswijn ─ take you into their idiosyncratic universe where fun and comfort thrive in triptych.

Timmerman resolutely opts for the most unfiltered stream-of-consciousness possible. He questions nothing, makes no statement and distorts impressions from the everyday with his own consciousness. These distorted elements then land in a lush and lush universe.

In a world of gloom, wretchedness and grotesque wives, Verstraete expresses his doubts about human nature. Embroiled in naivety, greasiness, melancholy and jollity, he tries to offer an answer to the meaning of life.

Van Heuverswijn makes drawings using only graphite pencil and eraser, exploring the limits of these simple materials during the process. The works are usually constructed intuitively in which control and coincidence alternate; there is never a pre-set plan. The designs do not involve major themes, but can be read as uncomplicated images from everyday life. Or: the pure, graphite beauty of flowers, clouds and raindrops.
