No way to win, nothing to lose

In this exhibition, Vandeplancke focuses on a series of unplayable sculptures in the recognisable imagery of the board game. Some refer directly to classics such as goose board, backgammon or bingo. In others, the link with the reality of the game fades, and patented elements from a range of image pools get all mixed up. Result: a brand new work for the old image pool. The playful character, however, is often an illusion. What to make of ‘Knettergek’ (Totally Mad), ‘Belastingparadijs’ (Tax Paradise) or ‘Rat Race’? Game on!
