Post-What!?

Post-What!? is Sebastiaan Van Doninck's first solo show at Rufus Gallery and involves a series of metaphorical drawings and paintings about contemporary history: from geopolitics through climate change to growing, advancing conflicts. The evocative narrative takes place in the twilight zone of our time, at a seemingly historical tipping point. Post-What!? is at once a fictional universe where humanity seems subordinate to the animal kingdom: humans are depicted as historical artefacts or as divine attributes. The dissociative works announce a chaotic endpoint, but equally embrace a beckoning promise. In between, think hieroglyphics, Romanesque art and Otto Dix to conclude: Van Doninck pushes substantive and technical boundaries.
