Galerie Rufus presents the solo exhibition 'Solo' by Belgian artist Elke Van Kerckvoorde: a surprising investigation into the relationship between art, consumption and identity, with butter as the leitmotif. With a classical painting style, unusual for her usually graphic approach, Van Kerckvoorde connects the rich tradition of butter in art with a contemporary twist through fictional packaging. These objects made of beeswax, oil paint and safflower oil do not merely function as sculptures, but also encourage contemplation about what actually makes something art. In addition, with a series of edited Solo logos, she questions the value of a visual brand and its perception as an 'art butter logo'. With 'Solo', Elke Van Kerckvoorde plays with our ingrained expectations in a tasteful way and lets the viewer reflect on graphic identities.
