In ‘Veil of Time’, Bloeme van Bon and Sofia Pashaei cross their brushes and shed light on the fluid boundary between identity and time. Bloeme van Bon presents a series of works where human figures are the central starting point, but rather as a means of visualising something: the paintings explore complex human nature through a subtle, almost meditative lens. ‘I start from a feeling and let it evolve slowly. The most crucial part of the process is the search ─ creating something from nothing until it feels right.’ Sofia Pashaei created a series of drawings and paintings with multiple layers of interpretation. One perspective explores how stories are told fully or fragmentarily and the second focuses on the inspiration behind them: the setting of a Mehmooni, a typical Iranian social gathering where food, hospitality and memories set the tone. ‘This connection with historical and cultural aesthetics gives the works a sense of nostalgia and timelessness. At the same time, I celebrate the beauty of cross-cultural communities.’
